Of Subak terraces
The place
Since the 9th century the terraces of Jatiluwih have been watered by Subak — a cooperative system that shares a single mountain stream field by field, decided together by the farmers who tend them.
Subak follows Tri Hita Karana, the Balinese idea that wellbeing comes from harmony between people, nature, and the divine. You can taste it: the rice on your plate was grown in the fields outside the window.
Three rices grow here — and all three reach the kitchen
Steamed fresh each day — the quiet base under every plate.
Nutty and local — in our Nasi Campur D'Carik and morning Bubur Beras Merah.
Grown in the high paddies and folded into sweets, the colour of wet earth.
Ganesha Bar
Highland coffee, fresh juice from the valley, and mocktails for the long afternoon mist.
What guests say
“The views are incredible — we had lunch right on the terrace overlooking the rice fields. The food was fresh, authentic Balinese flavors, and the staff made us feel like family. Highly recommend the bebek betutu!”

“Stayed two nights in the villas. Waking up to the mist over the terraces was magical. Kids loved exploring the paddies. Food at the restaurant was excellent — they even made a special non-spicy version for our youngest.”

“Finally found real Balinese food in a setting that matches the cuisine. The nasi campur here is the best I have had in Bali. Peaceful, beautiful, and delicious.”

“The drive up was worth it. Sitting on the terrace with coffee, watching the farmers work the Subak fields — this is the Bali I came to see. Authentic and peaceful.”

Riddhi Villas
A handful of villas a few steps from the kitchen. Mist over the paddies at dawn, breakfast on the terrace, and the sound of Subak water running through the fields at night.
Plan a visit
Mornings are clear over the terraces; the mist usually rolls in through the afternoon. Arrive early and stay through it.
